The ‘Food Guide Pyramid’ displays the food categories and daily quantities of food that you would need to eat to achieve a ‘well balanced diet’. Needless to say, very few people can claim to eat a ‘well balanced diet’ and even if you did, the ‘Food Guide Pyramid’ assumes that our food is nutritionally rich and does not take into consideration the lack of nutrients resulting from intensive farming practices, manufacturing methods and storage processes. Ideally, people should eat a good diet and use supplements to fill dietary gaps to promote good health and reduce the risk of illness and disease.
